Facts
Division history
Slovenia joined IVAO in August 2004 as 35th divison on this network. Since that day traffic in our country has constantly been rising. From initial 30 flights per month Slovenia now controls more than 250 flights per month. Division was opened with 20 starting members. Especially in the last months we got many new pilots and now we count nearly 70 members, pilots or controllers.
About our work
Slovenian division has currently 10 active controllers, daily working in our facilities. Since our division was started, (August 2004) our controllers have made more than 5.500 hours online on the network. In that time (until May 2008) we controlled 10.500 arrivals and departures in Slovenia, most of them were international flights. Aircraft, overflying our airspace are not included in statistic, however they present two thirds of traffic for ATC.
Our work is based on procedures from real life ATC, with that purpose many documents were issued from RL and changed for IVAO needs.
Info for pilots
Pilots can expect full ATC coverage on regular Friday's training days for our controllers and pilots after 18 UTC. Mostly coverages are also provided on Saturday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings with at least one ATC facility. In case of flying the division tour, where ATC validates flown legs by itself, and it's presence is mandatory, you can ask the ATC about the service time via chat before starting the flight. If service hours are already published in ATIS it is enought to enter a remark in FP, mentioning the division tour as described in Division activity - IFR/VFR Tours.
Generally ATC from pilots expect that they are informed about e-AIP and Notams before flying in Slovenia and equipped with some mandatory charts, such as ground charts and approach charts for some airspaces, where ATC separation is provided procedurally. See the e-AIP publication and Charts section.
Any group flights can request an ATC coverage in LJLA FIR, and shall be announced to SI-EC by the group flight leader pilot or VA chief as soon as possible in order to provide at least one controller online for the requested time.
Notice for controllers from other divisions
According to the IVAO Rules and Regulations 5.1.2., foreign controllers without knowledge about the Slovenian airspace shall not connect to any valid ATS position simultaneously, without prior application to the Slovenian Division staff (MC, TC or DIR). Foreign controllers intending to provide ATC in Slovenia and keeping a membership of their original division, shall firstly pass the ATC practical exams in their home division, before applying to Slovenia. With the intention to provide ATC in our division, both division directors shall agree before starting. Slovenian local instructor or training coordinator will check the knowledge of local procedures and complete additional training with the foreign controller if required. The written approval to start the ATC will be after instructor's or training coordinator's approval given by SI-DIR.
Members from other divisions, applying to vacant staff positions
Staff positions mainly require native speaking of Slovenian language, such as membership or training functions, being constantly in contact with the members. The division appoints members as staff based on previous experiences with them as pilots or controllers, showing appropriate abilities, reliability and attitude. With approval of director from member's original division and agreement, received from HQ, there are also some exceptions possible, starting with a division transfer to Slovenia. The SI division will before completing the transfer and appointing foreign member as a staff, check member's abilities to work on requested function, such as communicating with other members, airspace, local procedures, IVAO Rules and Regulations knowledge. These requirements are presented to the member after the application for the vacant position is sent to division MC or DIR via E-mail. |
